so if I buy like, let's say a 98 240sx, what kind of JDM swap can I do? and what it's horsepower?
you could do 3 variations of the sr20 (s13 (red top), s14 (black top), s15 (6 spd.) each one better than the last. it could also have a series of skyline motors, the RBs. rb20 (r32 single turbo) rb25 (r33 single turbo) or rb26 (GTR TT). an s14 with a stock rb25 with yield around 13.5-13.6 1/4 mile times.

edit: hp numbers:
RB20 - 220 hp i-6 single turbo
RB25 - 250 hp i-6 single turbo
RB26 - 280 hp i-6 twin turbo
SR20(redtop) - 200 hp i-4 single turbo
SR20(blacktop) - 220hp i-4 single turbo
SR20(6 spd) - 250(not sure)hp i-4 single turbo

these are the typical swaps for a 240sx

My friend had a '91 240SX, and when I left him in the dust with my Probe LX (140hp), he figured something must be wrong with it.

He brought it to the dealer, and the mechanic pointed out what he said was a common occurrance - the carpet had bunched up under the gas pedal, preventing it from being floored. A 2-minute fix brought back all those missing horses...

SR20(6 spd) - 250(not sure)hp i-4 single turbo
Actually, I think it was 248, but who gives a damn?

Anyway, I just came out of an S14 '96 to get my S. I was looking into a motor swap because the ka24 in mine had lotsa blow-by. The car is fun and has lots of cheap mod potential. I could have gotten my car <14 sec with a rock solid drivetrain for less than 6k.

I was seriously looking at the RB25. But when a friend offered to buy her and I was in a position to buy the S...well...the rest is history.

Some time in the early 90's I raced a co-worker's 240 in my 89 Cavalier Z24.

I beat him.

the key word is "IF"
IF you can even find a '98 240SX, let alone with a manual tranny....those are rediculously rare.

I was thinking about buying a 95-98 240sx and I want to convert everything into a S15.
Headlights, taillights, engines... Is the body the same as the S15 or is it different?
Also wat is sr20det?
if I buy a S15 engine, but the tranny is 6 speed, do I have to buy a different tranny?

Thanks for the help guys!

One word: CHEAP!

It's a lot of fun for the dollar, no doubt about that.
