am i the only person that thinks todays new age designers are designing cars for the sake of design?
ie design-centric
those cars are down right atrocious, cant imagine anyone wanting to drive that around a circuit.
i've seen some of the craziest designs on the net and seriously wonder if there some kind of automobile movement that is just beyond us mere mortals.

Tell me the front end in that picture doesn't resemble the S2000
The Rx-8 is identical

I've been following the Z closely, and, based on performance it should be a real contender. The styling depicts decent looks only when viewed from the side or from a corner. The direct image from front and back exudes incredibly plain and unmoving aesthetics.
The standard model starts at 26,200 and will be as fast or faster than the S2000 in straight line speed. It will definitely out-handle the likes of a Mustang or Camaro, I'm positive however, that it will fall short of the S2000's go-cart like handling characteristics. It's quite a value for that introductory price, and I commend Nissan on their efforts to bring back their share of the market. It will not be any kind of limited edition car like our S2K. They're bringing 30,000 cars in 5 available models to the states for the first year.
My guess on specs of the standard model:
weight: 3150 lbs
hp: 290
trq: 230
0-60: 5.4
1/4: 13.5

I was somewhat nonplussed by the pictures of the new Z I'd seen on the net. I went to the LA auto show this past weekend, and it looks very nice in person. Very very nice. The Suzuka Blue S looks great in person too, which surprised me. Who knows what direction fashion will take in the future, and how these cars will be regarded in that respect. You guys really should see the Z, you might change your minds.

Rick and I must have very similar tastes in car design. He saw the same butt ugly front end on the Pontiac concept car, and I also dislike all these new "rounded" fronts (Audi TT, BMW Z3). At least the Z3 roadster has some other lines that look OK, but what's the deal with the coupe. Ack!
The great looking cars are timeless. I watched "Cannonball Run" recently. The Diablo and the Ferrari are beautiful, and were designed more than 20 years ago. The S2000 is the closest I'll ever come to owning a car like one of those.
