NSX concept on acura website
#21
Honda executives have quoted mixed messages over the years on an NSX & S2000 replacement. Fans of the marque have been promised and let down so many times it's hard to take Honda seriously until it's in the showroom or on the cargo ship.
#22
For example they introduced vtec on the nsx and then slowly adapted it to their "normal" cars. They also introduced their "new generation" 2 liter engine with the s2000 and then the k-series came out for all the other cars.

NSX was hardly the first Honda to have VTEC, even DOHC VTEC was out before NSX. I think for USA market NSX may've been the first model, but not as a company worldwide.

They did it before and they can do it again. They just simply choose not to.

Honda needs to make a $35,000 fun roadster, not some halo limited production proof of technology piece of crap irrevelevant wanna be supercar. Who gives a crap about something that probably wont be made, and if it is, it still wont be as good as a 3 year old vette.

Honda exists to make a profit, nothing more, nothing less. If they don't think people with 35-40K to burn will pick a Honda over a German sports car, why would they build one?
The only thing I hold against them is not improving the S2000 through the years and just kind of letting it get surpassed by competition a la Mazda RX-8.

Ummm RX-8 never surpassed the s2000, even till this day. S2000 beat it in weight, power and handling. Ohh don't let me get started on the reliability of the RX-8 or better yet the MPG!!
[/quote]
I believe Jacques was referencing the RX-8 in the same sense as the S2000. Neither car really evolved in meaningful ways through their production life and pretty much died the same way. We are left to imagine what could have been with both the RX-8 and S2000.

"WAAAAAH.... Honda doesn't make any fun cars!"
/Honda makes fun car
"Waaaah... this fun car sucks."

The 918 is a whole different beast. The basis of it's motivation is a 570HP LMP derived V8 that redlines at 9K, the electric motors that bring power up to 770 are a nice bonus. All "918" examples being built have long been spoken for at $845K a pop. The simple fact Honda is sticking with a V6 turns me off, and I have owned two separate 1991 NSX's. The Audi R8 is what the NSX should have become.

I like how they blanked the license plate on the 918, as if it's an invasion of someone's privacy. It's a test mule!

This is sad.
Anyone remember when Honda existed to make money and cool cars? Like when they made the S2000 despite no profitability? Anyone happen to remember the NSX? That wasn't a profit leader either...
Sounds like that company is gone.
So, I guess the NSX successor will be all about profit, not fun...

And so many have whined and complained for years about Honda not bringing out a new version, now it is revealed there is one on it's way, and those same people are already skeptical.
