Yes the 997tt does have lag and you will notice it, but it is not as apparent as the 996tt lag.

Have you been happy with the "Lambo experience"? I figured a natural migration would be to something like a Gallardo Spyder or even the G's better looking sister, the R8 Spyder

Hey Raj, honest question, but how often do you take advantage of the Lambo's power? And how important is it that your DD convertible with back seats has that kind of oomph?
Not really going to explain myself, but I've never quite been a fan of lopping the top off the Turbo. Seems like you could save yourself a bunch of cash going with the Carrera Cab, or the Carrera S Cab, or the Carrera 4 Cab, or the Carrera 4 S Cab. Then again, cash is probably less of an issue for you than for the average backlot junkie.
PS- Admit it, you need the drop top due to the um... "gas" problem, right?

At near 600 hp, i honestly almost NEVER use the Lambo's power. It's fun for on ramps, but that's about it. You are right that a C2s cab may be plenty enough to fit the bill.
I actually sold my s2000 because my daily driving and most of my driving is pretty boring and such a short distance that I never put the top down so my old Explorer more than fits the bill. I figured i'd get an occational thrill in the Lambo and that'd be enough, but I long for 6 speed and drop top again. I do want something with some good torque though.

Why don't you buy a brand new Boxster S with a 6 speed manual stick AND a 911 Turbo Coupe to haul your kids in?
Or buy any other fun roadster along with a sports coupe with backseats. (the 911 has pathetic seats; I doubt kids will fit)
