The GN's were under-rated.. for a hefty Buick they were pretty fast.. A GNX would consistently run 13's.

Ya the GNs, T-Types, Turbo-Ts and GNXs are much faster than 6 and 7 seconds to 60. Even the slowest GN, the 1984 version, is maybe 6 seconds even at worst. They're big cars, but they're not *that* big for the power they make. They also made quite a bit of torque. These days V6 hp/torque numbers are practically even. Back then a turbo V6 putting out 360 lbs of torque was a big deal.

If you want to get REALLY technical, the 1982 GN was the slowest and least powerful. It had a Turbo 3.8 with like 170hp. Probably why only 215 were ever made and sold.

Turbo Buicks in general will I think continue to hold their value and maybe in the future even go up. The turbo 3.8 is a gem; I wish they'd make them again. I'm guessing that a few decades on from now, the turbo Buicks will be considered the last hurrah of the golden age of American cars....before GM really fell from grace.

The Dodge Neon (with factory option) can put out numbers about what a GNX was putting out with about half the displacement.

The only thing back then that was "faster" than a GN was a Dodge Omni GLHS, which was a POS in comparison. I don't personally consider a tiny box with a ton of horsepower (comparatively in size) nearly as interesting, or as good-looking, as a good ol' G-body with some muscle in it.

The Corvette had serious competition in the GN, if only in speed. You'd have to lower and resuspend a G-body very well to get it to move like a champ in the corners. The GN also made a mockery of its other G-body brothers in just about every way.

The GN mystique carried on no further than the 89 Turbo T/A, which is unfortunate. I think GM could sell a lot of people on a new turbo 3.8 machine.

GNX 4.7s....car & driver, may/87 issue.

the GN/GNX were the fastest production cars other than the P-turbo (4.6s) at the time.

even though it was 20 years ago, no one would have gotten excited about a 7s 0-60 time.

Hahah, nice.

I think its the Alzheimer effect.

The Mopar Performance Stage 3R Turbo Upgrade Kit ($4199) turns the already fast SRT-4 into a racing machine. The 3R adds some manual tools that takes the car to another level. There is a control to spray the intercooler, change boost levels and a switch to change to high octane mode. On 93 octane, the SRT-4 cranks out 310 hp and 325 lb-ft. Hit the switch and stop by the racetrack for some 100 octane those numbers jump to 355 hp and 365 lb-ft. Very cool.

spraying the intercooler and race gas, way to beat the crap out of 1987 techonology, go dodge!

3.8/2 = 1.9 which does not equal 2.4, thats about a 21% increase in displacement which is a big deal on such a *small* motor
