Thoughts 2008 mitsubishi evolution x
I'm looking for an awd dd and always loved Evo's. I am a student and am little worried about cost of maintenance for that car. Does anyone have experience or knowledge about long term reliability/issues with them? Thank you!

I have a 2010 Evo X and for the most part its been dead reliable. If I would have kept it stock then it would of been 100% reliable lol. I don't think maintenance cost are particularly high but the cost of oil changes and tires are a little bit more than the run of the mill Camry. I have 54000 miles on mine in which 50,000 miles have been tuned and modified. I currently make 340whp on e85 on a really low reading mustang dyno at 5000ft with basic bolt ons. The car is fun but can wear on your as a dd over time unless you don't mind a little louder interior and not so luxury car suspension. Overall I would recommend it!

Put 30k hard miles on my Evo X within 10 months and it didn't have a single issue. Not the best DD due to super short gearing, i.e. loud drone at freeway cruising speeds in 5th gear, and another byproduct was its thirst for fuel. It does respond to mods very well and honestly other than the atrocious turbo lag (especially in warm weather and AC blasting) I found it a great daily driver.

Of note, the 2011+ models have the upgraded timing chain that is less prone to stretching. I would echo the comments above. Mine was fully bolted on E85 and was pushing 380whp at 5600' above sea level. Hell of a fast car, but definitely loud and juvenile for daily use. They do not make good road trip cars or DD's with a lot of highway driving as you'll be spinning 3500+rpm on the highway. Combine that with a smallish gas tank and crappy mileage, you are stopping a lot. All other aspects of the car are great especially when some knob in a WRX thinks he's fast

I meant to type that in terms of comfort the car is a good DD IMHO, but due to short gearing thirst for fuel etc. it's not
