It may be emissions/nannying, but I suspect they are trying to preserve their engines' reputation for longevity.
It may also be to do with the ECU 'snoop' feature...

A4 Avant is a total waste of money if you want any room at all in the back. Also they tend to be married with the quattro transmission which is costly in terms of fuel. As I've said before a 330d with a remap should do the job nicely

I think I favour the 330d at the moment, quite fancy an auto too.....lazy.
IMO diesel cars really do not inspire enthusiastic driving. Better to chill out enjoy the torque and a nice slush box.

I really wanted the wife to have an auto but she doesnt like them.

I think the later old shape 330d's were 204bhp as std.

if you can afford more than 4 cyls then I would go for that.

whatever the power output, the 4cyl diesels always have a rough feel to them..

5cyl and 6cyl seems to be a quantum leap in smoothness..

I noticed this on the Audis BMW and Volvos, still happy I went with the volvo TBH it does exactly what I need it for. The wife likes it far more than I wanted her too. With the remap it's also really quite quick.

Sprinter 2.9. They had early reliability problems and replacement injector pumps are 3 large. The cars are full of FREDs unless it's an old W124 or something really good.

Kobe's right; due to the self-destructive CR of the Diesel, a fifth/sixth pot makes a world of difference.

Mind you, really helps an Otto too!

Yes, C320CDi and E320CDi

Great engines and very quick!

E Class doesn't see to get the best reviews due to build quality not being as it should.

Was shocked a few years back when a friend nailed a E320CDi out of the lights and I struggled to keep up with him to 40mph in the S! I was caught slightly by surprise though....
