I ran a 206 gti back in 2001 in a lovely burnt orange colour,
a great little car, not enough power to get you into trouble, but entertaining enough. The fact I sold it for an ATR 6 months later, tells its own story.
The 205 was/is a dog anyone who says otherwise clearly has a case of the rose tinted
I also had the ahem pleasure of accessing a 309gti - widley regsrded as a better handler than the 205 and that was whilst entertaining on the curvy stuff, completely shat in every other department. Along with the 205 GTi convertable (XS?) an ex used to run which was erm interesting.

Though I'll concede on the convertible.
Kate had a 206 when I met her. Hateful, unreliable, dull and nasty piece of French tin. Anything is preferable - if she wants entertaining handling, start with a Clio and try to ignore the build quality.
darkin.1 - After your recent post 'my life at 19' you must think we are a terrible lot!
one thing you can rely on is honesty as we can all hide behind our keyboards...ask me in a pub with your missus next to you and i'd likely say, they are ok....
the truth is quite different.
But these are all opinions from S2k drivers and general petrol heads....the 206gti is not for petrol heads, but peole who like the idea of a grti badge and the leather / alloys /styling they carry but are less bothered about how it drives. my friend is 21, loves his as the only 'gti' he could insure...truth is its not as good as a mini cooper, far from it.

A mate of mine had a 172 from new and loved it (I believe it had cup suspension) apart from the build quality... the build quality must have been bad as he only ever keeps his cars 6-9 months... having said that if you can find a good one that has held together so far it might well be OK.
I seem to remember it was pretty well equipped aircon, xenons etc but the driving position was a little odd...

well atleast you'll have the S as the 'reliable' car in your household.
i had a pug.
once.
never ever again. it drove ok but i was working on the pesky thing every month or two fixing something else that broke or fell off or wore out. i had the 306 TD.

Cheers for all info.
What about Clio 172, 182s?
What about Clio 172, 182s?
With regards to reliability it wasn't too bad, had a few silly little things brake but nothing major, at the same time a friend had a 182 Trophy which never caused any issues.
We both took ours from Spa - switzerland - the nurburgring last summer and both were faultless.
i had a mk1 172, was a hoot. driving position, much like the S, a little on the high side, but very capable and enjoyable drivers car.
For a bird, mini cooper all the way for me if you can stretch to £5k. otherw ise you will get a mk1 172 or evena m2 which is a little prettier for around the 3-4k mark.
Promise me you will have fun test driving a few tho!
