I think Plato acted as the everyman during the process. During each of the nonplussed reactions from "Giles" he gave us a look towards the camera like "yeah I know, what a tosser". He took him round each of the cars, but it was clear at the beginning that he wanted a big shouty sports car, and not a boring Bentley.

I agree that a better feature would have been for Plato to take him out in each of them, and then for "Roger" to go round the posh dealerships and watch how the salesmen treated him.

I don't understand why people don't like Plato though. He's not a journo, or an entertainer, he's one of us. A true petrolhead, and he can actually drive too. I respect the opinions of Tiff, VHB, and Plato, but I just find the fat hairy one annoying and pathetic. He really needs to piss off.
Plato acted as Plato, nothing more. I've never liked the guy, I met him a few times when he was racing Formula Renault and thought he was about to be the next big thing in F1 - he wasn't and turned into quite an aggressive driver as a consequence. Since then he seems to have enjoyed this persona he's got of being a 'hard man' (personally, I'd say he has talent, but aggression is the resort of those who can't win by fair means on the racetrack and therefore don't have as much talent as they perhaps think they do) and has played on it with the press and TV. He's all too good at pushing people off, he seems almost incapable of making a clean pass in BTCC, but as it's what the fans want to see, he gets away with driving that in any other discipline would see his licence endorsed. And he acts like a dick on TV too

So, back to 5G, the guy won the lottery 2 years ago and he still lives in the same house (by the looks of it, or at least he hasn't blown a million on a mock tudor mansion somewhere), takes a camper van on holiday and considers a Rav 4 as his most lusted after car thus far.

Fair to say then, him and his wife aren't the type to spend money lavishly, even when they have millions in the bank.

Hardly the kind of person you'd stick in front of a garage full of supercars and say "go for it". You're unlikely to get good TV out of the guy are you? Maybe the researchers should have done their research a bit better......is he really looking to pay a premium to beat the waiting lists, or has he settled for something else entirely?

we must have been watching different programs..

didn't look like a house that a typical motor mechanic (without a car) would have owned pre-lottery.. how many cars and motorhomes could he fit in his drive now??

did you notice the jukebox in the background too.. how many regular houses in UK have the sort of space to just plop one in no problem..

I also don't get his point to go on the show?? he wants publicity or something?

as already mentioned.. he had no obvious knowledge or passion for cars.. you wonder who had the original idea to do this piece.. him or the TV company..

it just looked a bit sad that plato was coaxing him into spending 100k for the purposes of a tv show.

I seem to remember VBH giving her S2000 away a couple of series ago, was that not her Nurby Blue parked up while she suffered in not one, but two, MX5's?

but I think he's there to be "everyman" and test the Euroboxes. I do wish they'd get shot of him though.

The rest of it was OK, although VBH was really struggling in the wet at Anglesea
Just makes her all the more desirable

Who is the fat bearded prick?

What a load of rubbish... 5th Gear is fecking awful.

The only good bit was the pic of the Brera which is gorgeous, shame its FWD

Plato should go to TG and TG should drop the Stig bollocks.
Agreed.

That beardy bloke is bloody useless. I think that Plato is way up his own backside as well. Top Gear works IMO becuase Clarkson is witty and the chemistry between hamster and the old fellah May works well.

Tiff and Plato are better drivers but when they are sat around that table in the office type environment chatting it makes me cringe. Now if VBH was more nekked then I would let it pass

Fifth gear bad
Top Gear good

Does anyone still watch the bumper cars? I gave up when they stopped using interesting rear wheel drive motors like the Cosworths and M3's. I cant bear to watch a Chavfords Civic or whatever they run right now ruining the UK tracks riding the kerbs dragging sh*t onto the apexes. The whole series is pants.
