Default 70 MPH inside lane

Came back from my brothers late yesterday afternoon - 1.5 hour trip from Essex. As we'd been up half the night and I had cycled 50 miles on Saturday morning I decided to do something I'd never done before:-

Relax and sit a 70mph or below and not use the outside lane. This was an attempt to 'amble' home and as we were in the diesel peoplewagon it wasn't a hardship

The traffic was light but the inside lane is unfamiliar territory for me, as is 60mph and it does give you a chance to see the 'bumper cleaning' that goes on in the outside lane.....everything from 'proper cars' to silly little girls in Peugeot 106's doing 90mph 10 feet from the car in front.

Mind you, there were no lorries yesterday and still there were some spectacular drivers in the inside lane...a place where roadsense seems to be rare.

Its no wonder there are bad accients in this country.

I think I'll stick to "normal cruising altitude" in future

have you ever stuck the car on cruise at 70mph.. and then see how many people can't manage to hold a reasonably constant speed..

you might overtake or be overtaken by the same car 20 times...

I spend a lot of time in the inside lane when towing at, ahem, 60mph.

It's bloody annoying when changing lanes and speed has to be done very slowly and gently

I also spend time at, ahem, 60mph when towing and it's madness.

I've noticed the total lack of forward planning of most drivers, but I also find it surprising just how many people drive at about 50mph on the motorway !!

Towing has made me aware of how much I rely on having a reasonably quick car when driving normally though

Yeah you really have to plan maneouvres for quite a while when travelling at 60 with a trailer, in comparison to just point and squirt type maneouvres in a quick car

HW -> Cheshire usin the M40? I can join at HW and travel for miles in the inside lane without having to change lane and yet overtake car after car after car.......

Oh yeah...forgot that bit... the people who drive at a seemingly constant speed....and then have to brake when they come up on the car in front !!

No foresight, no apparent concentration and its seems that at 60/70mph you are the slowest car on the road !!

Glad I don't have to do 50k miles annually for work anymore

That's why most people (tremblies) are so scared of M-ways; it is terrifying much below three-figure speeds.

You have to be going so fast the knuts have little opportunity to crash into you.
