Got a leaflet through my door today from the Police...I was pleasantly surprised.
You can now text 80999 (obviously not whilst driving yourself
) to report suspected drink drivers, providing the registration and/or car details along with the location, thus informing the local control centre.
I'm not sure if this is a nationwide scheme, but I think it's a great idea. With the nation's social skills diminishing, this is surely a good way to shop suspected drink drivers for those who are afraid/incapable of speaking to the Police.
It's by no means watertight, I dare say there will be kids/idiots who want to 'play a trick' on their mates to wind them up, and those who 'txt lik ths bruv'. But all things considered, I believe it is a positive move.
What do you think?

Just southern county forces using it at the minute.
i haven't heard about it, but other than a service for the deaf or incapacitated (if you can text but can't call for some reason) I dont see the point; if you think someone is drinkdriving then call 999?

Last time I rang nines was when some clown drove at me on a roundabout and stuffed the car in.
It was so bloody incredible I was totally convinced the driver was pissed, drugged or had nicked it.
Almost certainly a malicious act.
After a lengthy call all they do is what they always used to do.
Circulate a QVC call to keep eyes out for it.
Waste of bloody time.
And this text thing is just more 'BS' feelie-goodie propoganda.
One day we'll get some proper Police resource, and coppers with old fashioned balls to fill the vacancies.

It seems to be a very shallow political gimmick; there'll be 0800 Dob-a-nonce next.
There may well be some revenge murders to clear up, too...
Seems like a fairly good idea.
I rang 999 one when I saw a blatantly drunk bloke get into a car and career off.
The police said thanks, but there’s not much they can do follow him.
There’s a scheme in Canada about dangerous drivers.

If someone drives like a twat you call or txt a certain number and report them.
If they receive several separate complaints about the same reg-number then they will act on it.
Exactly what ‘act on it’ means I don’t know.
I’d hope that the drink drive thing might do something similar.
Maybe if you report a drunk driver they will check the guys home address and have a cop waiting for him when he gets home to give him a breath test.
