Right Rahula since you are here:
I was going to PM you this but - my car does around 20k a year and the winter has been particularly harsh. Within the next month I'd like to recondition my finish so that it looks the nuts for the summer months. I've read most of your site FYI
My car suffers from speckles of tar and some swirl marks that can be seen in certain lights, particularly artificial.
I'd like to spend a day monstering it but I'm not particularly interested in doing a 40 point detailing with

To add I do have a cheap effort 'polisher' that I got from costco - it has one speed (pretty fast) and I could probably pick up a nice new pad for it. Would this be an advantage or a hindrance? I found when I used it on my scooby with an autoglym polish it put more swirl marks on than it took off and also it made the polish go hard on the paint and I had to manually buff it away as it was dried in!
A polisher is very easy to damage the paint work. You want a dual action polisher like the Porter cable
and use the pads and compound needed, always use 1 level less than you think you may need and then there is less chance of causing more damage.
Mits depends on what kind you are after Fraser, Wool, cotton, MF, Synthetic?
You can also get the grid guard that was in that bucket separately, buts its just as effective using 2 buckets and rub the mit across the top of the bucket to remove any grit.
I maybe doing details on the side soon.

Pretty difficult to do damage with a DAP, in fact pretty difficult to remove any major blemishes with a DAP. They are best used for maintaining the paintwork, no more. Level 1 on the PC is good for is coating the compound or buffing wax, little more. Level 2-3 is for the rubbing then finishing off on level 4-5. A orbital buffer is much more effective becaus it generates heat through friction, which in turn softens the paint, but it is easy to go too far and burn or swirl the paint too.
Fraser, I can get you some wash mitts if you like and drop them off at the next Herts meet, as I am down the road from Serious Performance.

Suitable venue with proper facilities ??
What do you need ??
Use my place if you want.
8 cars on the driveway easily, garage and parking on the grass to the side of the house for another 20 cars ?? OK if it's dry, be pretty useless otherwise anyway.
Water, pressure washer, electricity, tea and coffee and toilets, plenty of room out the back for bbq and beers when finished ??

Time to start a new thread me thinks. I'll pm you in the next few days Simon, once again thanks for the very generous offer.
