Ethanol (AKA biofuel) [1] could soon be mandated here in the UK [2] by the look of things. As well as adversly affecting food prices [3] other down-sides of this fuel are that it can clog fuel systems, damage fuel lines [4] and attract water which then separates out in the fuel at a relatively low saturation point [5], mainly affecting applications where fuel tank contents are not replenished frequently. The US are even have a website warning consumers to buy testing kits to check their ethanol fuel content (because fuel retailers don

I warned of this on the Tesco 99 Octane thread. Tesco 99 Octane is 99 Octane due to the amount of added biofuel's.

For the reasons mentioned in the OP I would recommend you avoid Tesco's 99 octane.

I've used it for the last two years in my S and never had any problems. Also my last two CTR's, its all a load of rubbish IMO, its just a scare tactic from Shell and BP because they are losing customers to it.

There is duty on red diesel, just less.

If they scrap the duty then you will see a LOT of farmers going out of business.
