Default Advice on VX220 T

I love my S2k, there's no doubt. However, I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on the Vauxhaul VX220 Turbo? I was thinking of getting one, about 6 months to a year old. My problem is, can I risk the bullet-proot reliability of my Honda for a Vauxhaul?

I like the turn of speed, handling etc. of the vauxhaul (although not driven one). Anyone here had any experience and wish to give me their wisdom?

I looked at one before buying the S, didn't realise just how small the cabin is. I went onto the Vx220 forum and a member locally said he'd take me out for a spin. Both 6ft ish and we were rubbing shoulders the entire time. Quick tho!

I seriously considered one when i came to buy my current s2k.

I was very tempted, but at the end of the day the access in and out of the car was just too difficult with the roof on to use it as a daily driver for me (i'm not very flexible). It was also very cramped and spartan in the cabin.

other than that it's a very fast car. That being said, i followed one round at Donington and he was holding me up. Ok, so i don't think the driver was the greatest, but i was expecting it to pull away on the straights and it didn't.

If i could have another car for weekends and trackdays, i'd love one.

if you are the wrong side of 6ft then with the roof on as a daily drive it is going to be a real pain in the arse , if not then its just something you get used to .
running costs are cheap as the parts are all "standard" vauxhall items , and the service costs are good with loads of dealers around .
i found thats you get great fuel bills even if you are on the turbo all day you can get over 30 mpg no probs .
due to them not being made now the resale vaule is good on a second hand unit .
handling is fantastic with endless grip and great feedback from the tiny wheel , mainly due to no power steering .
but best of all is the power , it feels really really fast as stock and for very little money can be tuned to get mega power .
i loved the s but there was never really enough grunt after the vx .
In short a great car .................. but if its power you are after get an evo

thought about it and the elise, but its just too impracticle really - lack of electric windows, cd player, air con, electric roof - its a shame though 30mpg and 0-60 in sub 5 seconds! i might buy a blower for the s2k and get 13 mpg or whatever the FI boys get.

I crashed a VXT after about 7 months of ownership. Truly gutted. I bought my Dad's S off him which I like a lot but still doesn't excite anything like my VX did. Absolutely fab car. I tried to sell my S recenty but didn't manage to. If I did I would have bought an Elise 111r or VXT again. In terms of value the VXT wins all the way.

Not trouble free, mine had a bit of a gearbox problem and had a new head gasket fitted under warranty.

I'm sure to get another sometime.

Useful options:

C/L - always good

Hardtop - makes a big difference but it's like the S you can't have the roof off and have it with you. 2 mins job to fit though!

Leather - looks nicer

Stereo - useful to have even though optional system is poor as easy to upgrade later

Milltek exhaust - makes a big diff, nice sound, worth 10-15bhp over standard. Awkward to fit and expensive so worth finding a car with one fitted.

Drop me a pm if you have any specifc q's

vx220.org.uk is a great forum and a good place to find a gd 2nd hand car

Thanks everyone..... I will seriously think about it; although it depends on house moves, etc.
