Default Anyone ever swapped CV boots?

Got told that there was slight deterioration on the Passat CV boots at the MOT.

No tearing, just prudent to replace now, to avoid CV damage in the future.

Anyone ever done a CV boot swap? I've not done that job before but willing to have a go.

Tips?

Yeah, done loads of these

Ball joint splitter and crow bar, not forgetting to slack off the hub nut FIRST with someone standing on the brake.

Ultimately, once you get the drive shaft off, there will be a couple of 'band-it' style clamps holding the boot on. Use a small screwdriver to prize the locking tabs undone and it should simply slacken off.

After this, the boot will simply pull off.

Top tip, wear some saftey goggles as grease in the eye is a disinct possibility!

Oh, and try your best no to seperate the bucket and the spider - pain in the arse to get them back together!

Eeek. Sounds maybe a bit intense. I was thinking disc swap levels of skill. This seems a bit more complex.

Don't have a ball joint splitter

I was going to post that but thought I'd get lynched for it.

CC, it's all about weighing it up first.

Get the car on axel stands and have a good look at what needs to be removed in order to get the shaft out.

Once3 you have done that, you can see what problems you might encounter (most often siezed stuff).

Always better to have a plan
