I am leaning towards Discovery now. I am with you on the 300TDI after chatting to the Land Rover boys round the corner but I love the style of the 03> those later lamps and styling look great.

CRV is good in a way that it is Jap and fits in with Nemesis but then I don't think it would cause much of a stir pulling up at JAE or a Jap show in a Land Rover?

Years ago I imported a new Series 11 Disco (W reg so about 2000?) from Holland (saved so much money that I didn't get rid of the previous 3 year old Disco, just kept it as a company run around). The 5 cyl deisel engine and auto box was a foul combination. I hated it, although more refined than previous version in ride, style, noise and comfort. I sold it after 6 months. I still have the one I bought in 1997, going strong and no problems for the last 8 years!

On the CRV - not so hot off road

Land Rover if you want something easy to fix, Toyota if you don't want it to break in the first place. Everything else is a wannabe

The TD5 came out in 1998 but the 300 tdi was made till around 1999.

I had a Defender with a 300tdi and it was a great engine, but I also had a 2002 TD5 defender which to be honest was a better engine. It never went wrong (nor did the tdi) and Landy garages are good at fixing them now.

If there is no rust a 300tdi would be a good bet, but if you can, get the latest TD5 you can.

Thats my 2 pence worth.
