I have read somewhere, but can't find it now, that if you have unpaid fines in a country, re-entry to that country can be difficult (entry refused, or detention) until the fines are paid
Also, as mentioned above, the hire company may have an issue with you, which may lead to your being blacklisted, either by that company alone, or by the industry in general.
I think the above is worth checking before permanent 'filing'.
If it was sent by normal mail ie. not signed for, I'd ditch it.
If you are stopped on returing to Spain, or hire car company threatens you, then just plead ignorance and say you haven't received anything.
