Think the second picture looks better but so it should - not your standard Audi sportback

Not sure why Audi call it sportback?

It's like Quailty Inn Hotels or Comfort Inn Hotels these are the last things that they will ever be- it's more a misson statement!

Like my works HelpDesk last thing they actually do is 'help'

The Audi sportback is not sporty it looks fugging ugly

There Alex you have my view

i'll get my coat and put the soap box away before I leave....

One of my drinking buddies is a finance manager for an Audi dealership, the mark up on Audi in particular is astounding.

As we all know, VAG platform share mercilessly, but it's not just the platform, it's pretty much all of the bits you can't see, including switchgear (they just put different facias on the switches). Audi usually gets the technology first, as it's the 'premium' brand, then VW, then Seat and Skoda, but in a short while, all the brands have the same technology. Additionally, the difference in bhp is purely artificial and marketing led, the ECU determines how much the car puts out, not the mechanicals themselves.

So to pay the premium for the Audi badge over the Skoda badge now seems even more pointless to me than ever.

I quite like it, in black, with the bits on - the S-line stuff etc. I didn't realise that in order to get 5 doors you have to have the sportback though, I thought you could get 3 door / 5 door / sportback; I want the 3 door, but with the sportback!

Also, you don't seem to get any more space with it, when I had a look around the one in the dealer.. in fact dealer wasn't all that impressed with it.

Toying with the new S3 in 18 months or so when nearly-new prices come down a bit after release.

I'd quite like the new S3 too, but I really need 5 doors rather than 3, and so the only way I can do that in an A3 is to get the Sportback.

Thought about getting a Golf GTI instead, but I just don't like the interior.

So it's a choice between fugly on the inside or fugly on the outside

(This is to replace the BMW by the way, not the S )

Estate car. It has the same problem as the Peugeot 407 and 307CC/Megane CC cars in profile; the front and backs of the cars look like they were designed for vehicles of entirely different proportions.

Put your hand over the pic above, covering the back doors and boot. Front half looks like a normal Audi A3.

Now cover the bonnet and front doors. The back end looks like it belongs to something massive, you expect the front to be about 4 metres long.

407 has this in reverse
