Thank god no one was hurt. It really did burn to the ground. I've never seen/heard of a car burning to the ground quite like that so late in it's development. I bet this will put the release date back a few months.
I did hear that one of the Veyron test drives did a full 360 spin on the 'ring when they were testing it, and nearly slammed it into a barrier. Needless to say that was his last lap of the day.
