do you not trust the welds on your axle stands? bad experience? internet horror stories?
i'm not knocking your ways - better to be over cautious than squished, just curious as to the caution...
1000kgs + held up by 2 or 4 pieces of metal approx. 10mm think and an inch in diameter.

Humn nature.

Right , the tonne on four pieces of 40mm dia steel tube is fine, the welds are ok , working underneath is Ok, the 12mm dia pins in double shear are ok , Christ I am an engineer and can make an eyeball assessment of all of that or do we need four pages of calcs to support the eyeball. This is black smith engineering not ultra light weight near the knuckle stuff where weight is critical along with safety etc.

Triangles, easiest to cut and easiest to fit simples as suggested by a meer cat! Oh and will have added benefit of tieing the legs togehter and adding further strength.

The only problem was that the legs were beginning to sink and hence eyeball engineering suggests a possible safety issue, god knows what the lean mix concrete is like under the tarmac.like cheese no doubt

In the past I've generally put plate metal under the stands on tarmac drives, but now have the plate on the bottom type.

Thankfully it was pretty much hammered home by my dad to support the car by axle stands when underneath a car.
Though having said that I didn't once, and once only! Will never leave the car unsupported properally again. Whilst replacing the gearbox of my old motor I was in the process of changing the support under the car (on ramps and needed to take the wheels off) it fell off of the jack ... luckily I wasn't underneath at the time ! It was a Mk1 MR2 so I would have been rather slimmer if I had been under it

I hate working under the car, even on stands!

Its a real chore, i was under the car for most of the day a few weeks back fitting various things - i think I'm getting old or sick of modifying .

I still quite enjoy tinkering under the car So long as I don't have to get under the S due to things being wrong ! Other cars are fine though

On my list of things to do is get under the S and copperease the adjustables and waxoil the rest.
