Default Beater question

Ok it's not a beater, but I couldn't think of a better title!

My mate is selling this and we've agreed a deal on it in principal, i'm just waiting to fully inspect it.

Are there any major issues with these? Does is share the 2.3 from the older car? (Nikasil liners!) Is it likely to be realiable? It's been looked after, but has lots of toys on it to go wrong.

Probably only going to do 2-4k a year in it.

Is it capable of towing 1000kg?

Don't really know much about BMW's.

323i is a 2.5 with 170bhp.

Not the most economical engine about, but I am sure that it will do the job.

For towing the 2.0d would probably be better, but the 323 will be fine.

A slight upgrade from the Audi then

Looks decent enough mate. And having all those M bits on helps with it's stance for sure.

Had the chance to drive a current BMW 3 series and it drove very well for a standard saloon car. Have to admit it changed my perceptions of the brand a bit.

Slight upgrade, yes

It's very nice to drive. Throttle is very stiff though, and makes pulling away a bit tricky. Like the noise from the 6 cylinder too!

Doris even drives it, after turning her nose up Didn't tell her, but insuring her on it nocked off a good chunk of money from the insurance. I shall use this to gain favours at some point in the future

can't really complain at that price

confirmed my suspicion that I wouldn't get much for my Omega

it would irritate me to sell the car for less than I've spent on it, so it sits around and just gets insured when I need to use it for odd trips

I doubt the throttle problem would be too difficult or expensive to sort out

as you know, I favour main agents, but have used (indie) James Paul south of Guildford and was happy with them

Yep I like to think it's a bargain. It's certainly a lot of car for the money.

I'm in the same boat with the Audi, as you prob would be with the Omega. People just don't want old cars with bigish engines. I will prob end up giving it away to some dodgy side road trader just to free up space on the drive, which seems criminal really

I think I will live with the throttle - i'd like to look after the car but aim to be conservative on what gets spent on it. Just been serviced so it's got 14k miles til the next one

you might get more than you expect even for scrap/parts - I'd ebay it

scrap metal prices are sky high and there are a lot of useful parts on a car like that

I would be very wary of living with a sticking throttle

I had a very nasty accident with the throttle sticking open on a 5.3 V12 once
