Default Which BMW?

How do you tell one BMW from another (without looking at the numbers on the back) ? They all look the same to me!

I don't think you can, from the exterior. At least not engine size, anyway.

The only obvious differences that I'm aware of are between the "normal" versions and the C versions. The Cs only have two doors, to the four on the "normal" variants.

you can tell the Z3, coz it's the really really ugly one

the compacts are the short ones that look like a wierd lexus at the back. you can usually hear the stereo before you see the car.

if the driver is on the mobile and has an M&S jacket hanging in the back window, it's a 318i. if he's on the mobile with the jacket and only two doors, it's a 318is

if it just went past you at 140mph, that was an M3

err.....that's just about the lot i think.....

What do you mean "tell one BMW from another"? I thought they only made one type?

It bewilders me that people still insist on buying a silver 3-series as some kind of a prestige status symbol. Hey look at me, I've finally caught up with the 200 million other people who already drive silver 3-series BMW's. Idiots. Why not go out on a limb and buy something a bit exclusive - like a Mondeo?

Rant over. Thanks for listening.

I think BMW make good - sometimes great cars as do Porsche, however, they are over priced and the British have a strange snobby attitude to both makes

U can usually tell by the number of exhaust pipes........ and the type of wheels that the car has on it....... the M3 also has a cool intake on the front wing with the M power badge. Thats what I look out for to tell them apart.........

I think it is easy to tell them apart.....

7 Series - big ugly monster
5 Series - medium sized ugly monster
3 Series - everyone can spot these because thay are so common
Z3 - hairdesser at the wheel gives this one away

The ones with 2 wheels tend to be bikes

Like the cars, many can be spotted sitting on the outside lane at 70mph with a queue of traffic behind them.
