plus, it's perfectly possible to design security that would make it impossible for anyone barring a SWAT team to get to your keys before Police arrived

think alarms, panic buttons, guaranteed responses and safes

none of which has to compromise convenience and lifestyle in the slightest

I spent a lot of time looking into home and vehicle security after I was burgled

I will ignore the ageophobic and xenophobic remarks and just say:

I am preparing for when I come to supposedly civilised parts of the world like Notts and Derby. Though luckily at the present time and foreseeable future* I won't need to go there to follow our football team. The guys do enjoy living here even though there is no one here except 26,000 odd tramps who scream and shout at Carrow Road every other week or so.

Any idea on cost for this baby? I am not really driving the level of car that I envisage men in guns holding me up for the keys. But the semi mass-production and £35k-£70k value of the BMW top end makes them a target for nerd boys like Nottm who go twocking after dark in the Trent basin

I think its trent "valley" really. although it is quite flat as many thousands of years ago it was a very large river.
Next door has his db9 and noone has tried to nick that. i'd spend more securing the house than the car is worth i think.
plus its a manual so requires driver input

flipancy aside i think this is big city crime. We'll see i guess. i was loving it coming home late from the station the other day. Hard ride aside there is something very pleasant about the combination of grunt, solidity and dynamic competence.

at 5/10s its really exceptionally nice. Not sure i expected that.

enjoy the prem while it lasts Rog, its a cruel mistress

That is worryingly easy.

Might just take the battery with me, or one of the wheels off while at Tesco

It's on Watchdog tonight http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01ms174

So far BMW's response has been pitiful.

According to the BBC report posted by Shiskine, BMW say they are modifying pre 9/11 models of X5 and X6 and that all post 9/11 built models are fine. So that narrows it down nicely.

Thanks a bunch BBC.

Yours sincerely,

A Scrote

edit: I recently sold mine to Tony Martin, a local farmer I know ...

They proved it takes under 3 minutes to rewrite a key and just drive away! My uncle had his x6 nicked in Manchester 6 months back. Parked it, came back and gone, no trace. Insurance company did not believe it was stolen, as good as accused him of having it 'arranged'... I hope he gets an apology!

I shall go see my local dealer as I have to get a tyre seen to anyway.

The programme should be viewable on iPlayer for 7 days until the next Watchdog.

Watchdog Episode 1 Series 30: BMW promise to fix any cars affected - 10:37 onwards.
