No, the S2000 has not gone anywhere! Quite literally actually. Only gets used at the weekends nowadays, but it was time to jack in the wife's old motor.

The options:

New Fiesta Zetec-S: nicely put together, a good old Fiesta experience, very pretty, crap dealer, sadly lacking in the performance department despite the claimed 20 horsey advantage over the last Fiesta I drove.

New Honda Jazz 1.4 EX: cracker of a car in terms of practicality, just can't be beaten for that. Amazing amounts of space, better looking than the old one, but an image problem even so, and really very lacking in the 'oomph' factor according to the missus.

Honda Civic 2.2 diesel jobby: she liked it because of the diesel engine, I found it particularly dull. I actually fell asleep when she had it out for the test drive! Had to be ruled out because her work car parking spaces are so small, parking the Civic was more of a challenge than she wanted.

Suzuki Swift Sport: well specified, decent performance, S2000ish driving experience (in a somewhat loose but high revving sense!), but hindered by lack of practicality (e.g. the bench rear seat).

The decision was.....

Suzuki Swift Sport! So we went in and ordered one in white on Saturday. Fingers crossed it arrives by the time of MOT expiry! May post some photos once we actually take delivery.

Think a few on here have - or have had - the Swift Sport? Here's another to add to the numbers.

Great choice - I like the Swift Sport - a great fun little car!

If I were to recommend a junior warm hatch, this is definitely the one to go for!

nice one

remains on my possible list as a replacement for my partner's car

I like the Sport but I noted it is the one model in the range that doesn't have the folding rear seat - is this still the case

irrelevant if I drive it on occasion but could be a real pain for my partner, who would want the loading space

the other reason I have been hanging on is I want to see some really attractive pricing/discounting from manufacturers........isn't happening as far as I can see

what about Suzuki?

Good choice, we've had ours for over two years now. Within that time the only issue we've had was a faulty ARB bush - replaced no problem.

However I think I should point out the appaling ride quality, if you think the S is stifly sprung, go for a lengthy drive in the Swift on Britains gloriously surfaced B roads and report back, maybe stopping by the chiropractors on route

Pete - the back of the rear seats do fold, however the rear bench is fixed, so it doesnt fold flush. But as the roof is quite tall this doesnt present to much of problem when transporting a severed 20 year old laurel bush to the dump

What he said.....! The rear seat folds, but its the whole thing that folds, not split folding, which was a bit disappointing.

The best I managed was

New car prices are going to rise because there are fewer people buying new cars, the big discounts at the moment are cars that have been built and have been sitting around waiting to be bought aren't really shifting.

Discounts on cars that you have built are about the same as always, between 2% and 5%.

Personally I wouldn't wait if you're planning on changing, just be prepared to buy something from existing stock - then you'll get a great deal.

?? What about supply vs demand - imho low demand = falling prices, simple, stock or no stock

It's always the case; anything desirable has little discount. The Swift, for example.

Buy a Rectum right and you get SAAB thrown in. No, not A SAAB...

Thought I'd post some photos of the Swift Sport. Picked it up yesterday, and gotta say, it looks absolutely cracking in white, especially in the sun. However, with it having been so sunny at the weekend, the Swift stayed home and we took the S2000 out!

One to show what that rear folding bench seat really looks like when its folded down..... not great, but frankly, as good as the new Fiesta, and the Swift is miles better than the Fiesta in oh so many other ways.
