Just seen on the go ol' Beeb, that the chancellor is planning a "Showroom Tax"

Hate to say it, but I think that this could be a more effective deterrent to people buying "eco-unfriendly" than loading road tax.

It should be EU wide to encourage manufacturers to create more efficient vehicles.

At least it targets new vehicles rather than trying to motivate people to chop in perfectly good older vehicles for new - with the associated manufacturing impact.

I think it'll spell the end for cars like the S. As it'll only those with big bucks that can buy their way out of responsibility and they'll largely be buying more expensive cars.

I think I'm just getting fed up of the motorist being hit all of the time.....but on the plus side they might delay the 2p increase on fuel for 6 month's.

I have to agree that just throwing

i only usually drive my car for a few hours on the weekend but i have to pay loads more tax than some "greener" car that does 10,000 miles a week.

how does that work then?

To be fair the 10,000 miler is only doing 59.52 miles per hour which is an eco-friendly pace

interesting knock on effect could be that second hand prices take a decent jump too though so not sure owners should be complaining. Short end of the wedge though but your second hand band g car might gain a grand in value over night... silver lining.
