Default Cayman 987

I think I have found my next car, a 2.9 Cayman. I can’t think of any other car that would be an ideal sports car such as this, or maybe I’m going mad! More power than the S, lovely looks as well. I know parts are more expensive than the Honda, however my Dad is an engineer so I’m not overly worried about that. I’ve had the S a few years now so maybe time for a change!

Would love to hear peoples opinions.

Have driven a 987S Cayman and Boxster, among other things, looking for an S2000 replacement. I captured my thoughts here... Cayman 987s, within a whole thread dedicated to my musings and test drives.

You have similar opinions to me, I drove a gen 1 Cayman S which felt really quick, but I wouldn’t touch a gen 1 with a barge pole. I’ve yet to drive a gen 2 but I would like to. I think I’d prefer the 2.9 as you can enjoy it more without going too fast!

Driven 987s. And wernt impressed. So stuck with the s2000.
981 however is a vast improvement and only once you drive a 981 you realise why there holding there money. But from a fun factor not a 'wow' compared to s2000 but a lot more.grown up and more useable from a gt aspect yet still fun as well..

987 didnt feel any better then the s2000 (testiment to s2000)just more grown up more gt car.. it wasnt any quicker in the real world as the ratios are quite long. The manual just isnt as good as s2k or a gt86. Braking was great though. Handling was neutral more confidence inspiring steering feedback was lacking..

Now the 981 they improved the weaknesses and you can really feel all the improvements and is a far more engaging driving experience whilst being more grown up and modern inside..

When its my time i be after a 981 cayman.

hydraulic steering is gone though, also I would say the Cayman is definitely quicker, especially the S models. Haven’t driven the 2.9 yet but I will.
