Default Civic Type R

Thinking of a CTR soon for a daily hack and winter car (can't use the S all the time due to chronic back problems so it's a weekend/summer car now). Omega Elie fulfilled it's task over the winter but as I'm probably needing to have a 2nd car long term, I think I want something newer and more reliable, more fun, hatch to put bike in easily etc.

Looking at around £7k to spend on a facelift, pref in grey or silver with A/C.

Does anyone here have one. I'd like to know how they compare to the S2000, most notably on ride quality and reliability/build (built in UK weren't they?). I know it's a stiff hot hatch but sat in one the other day and fit in the car nicely, good seats that are comfortable & supportive etc. (which my back needs!). How does MPG compare (my driving gets 28mpg out of the S).

Anyone here have one that's local (Horsham)?

I have other considerations, Octavia VRS (ticks a lot of boxes but still quite new and pricey), Golf GTI (not quite cheap enough yet).

I used to own one.

Ride quality is different to the S, it's a lot more crashy over the big stuff, mostly down to those oversized wheels, but it's better over the smaller bumps and much better on the motorway.

Turning circle is very bad - get ready for lots of 5 or 7 point turns

Gearbox is fantastic.

Engine is very good.

Seats comfortable and supportive - IIRC you can get Recaros in some special edition versions

Honda reliability, so very good AFAIK.

MPG similar to the S.

Yes, agree with LG above. Hubbie and I had one from brand new, a 54 reg. I found the ride incredibly stiff, seemed stiffer than my s, but then I do have one of the later 'sloppy' ones!
If you can, try to have an extended test drive in one if your back is that bad. I can't see how it will suit you to be honest, unless you're only doing short distances.
I would consider having one after my s though, if I have to get something more sensible.

Not owned one but I really like the idea of one.

DC5 is also and option, but a bit more expensive.

Other requirement (and why I like the CTR) is that it's easy to get in/out (this is actually key - once in my S, I'm fine but getting in/out all the time isn't great for the back) so coupe's aren't really on the agenda.

Anyone any more advice? Anyone experience of Octavia VRS? Other ideas welcome (although I know what I 'like' and 'dislike' for other reasons but there's always something I've not thought of! )

I had a facelift EP3 Civic Type R and I can safely say that it is the best car I have ever owned. Granted that isn't saying much as I have only had a Fiesta, an EP2 Civic Sport, the Type R and now the S2000.

It is a great driving position, fantastic gear change and is great to drive all round, be it calmly through town or giving it a portion on track. The ride is a horrendous experience for anyone in the back (not your concern as you'll be driving) but worth mentioning. Plus with the seats down you can get quite a fair bit in the back if need be.

I love my S2k, but each time I pass a CTR a small part of me wishes I still had it.

Thanks peeps.

Ideally want to test drive one. Problem is, main dealers no longer sell them. Traders will TD once you agree to a deal
Private sellers - well, I don't want to waste their time/get their hopes up of a sale when all I want to know (at this stage) is whether it rides OK. I don't know anyone who ownes one either.

Take a look on here - http://www.type-r-owners.co.uk/forums/index.php

Might not help you get a test drive but there are usually some in the for sale section although I haven't been to the site for a while myself.
