Civic Type R help required
Hi
Have you raised the problem on 'Civic Type R Owners' or 'Type R Owners' web sites?
I had two Civic Type R's over a period of about five years before I recently bought my S2000. Every time I had a problem, I really had to push it. I think it was thought that because I was a woman, I did not know what I was talking about when it came to cars. The dealer did sort all the problems out. I found it very frustrating when I bought my second CTR because I had quite a few problems with it from new!!
I didn't ever have problems with the engine management light but I did push my CTR to its limits even taking it to Croft in June and had a fantastic day around the track!!

I agree with Karen, and had similiar experiences with honda, although any time I've heard of a severe overev? the engine has gone bang at the time, 12k+ revs being quoted at one time.
Calm reasonable discussion will achive far more than shouting the odds, I know, I work in the trade too.

OK, just a quick follow on from my extended post last night - I have checked a few things and there is a bulletin dated 28.08.03, relating to freeze data - the info downloaded from the ECU
I have reproduced it here and it applies to all cars.
EDIT; Bulletin now hosted and downloadable HERE
Looking at the example in the bulletin, the EP3 engine was doing 78.64 mph at 22184 rpm - OUCH!
Also, this data should be retained in the ECU even if the battery has been disconnected, the only way to lose it would be for the AA or dealer to delete it - I do not think given the circumstances that it would be deleted.
Chris, can you get hold of a copy of the Freeze Data from the "London Dealer" and post it on this thread.

Engine Over-Speed DTC
Background:
Customer reports that there is a problem with the vehicle's engine. Either the engine does not start, or the engine runs but a knocking can be heard.
For diagnosis, it can be very difficult for the technician to identify a true cause.
In a number of returned components analysis has shown that the cause of the engine failure/noise was due to the engine exceeding its designed maximum
engine speed.
Countermeasure
An engine over-speed DTC facitlity has been added to the ECM.
Diagnostic Information:
Using HDS check for a DTC, if 119-1 (Engine Over-speed Condtition) is found select the Freeze Data option. From this you will be able see the last recorded
engine data, including engine RPM.
From this you can identify if the engine ECM has recorded an over-speed condition.
Application to Production Line
SHHEP3***2U008522
All Civic Type R's with a VIN after the application
number shown above will have this function available.
Warranty Information
Please note that engine damage caused by an engine
exceeding its maximum design limit is not a warrantable
item.

Possibly by posting a string of useful facts here!
At the risk of sounding like Gradgrind yet again, it's facts we need here!
Although Mr. Prelude has always said kind things about Davey's dealership.
Now, with a six-speed cable change transverse-engined car like the EP3, I can really easily see that it may be quite easy to get 2nd instead of 4th on a bumpy road (why you never change a transverse FWD mid corner!) and the data freeze option seems blindingly obvious.
Do all S2000s have it? Sort of wish I'd got it for mine, now!

I believe from 2003 models it was standard across the range although the S and R's are more prone to over-revving through user abuser.

At least Davey now has time to help other people instead of devoting it all to me.

Hows that then?
All I ever really look for is to feel that I'm recieving the service and respect of a human being and not be made to feel as if I'm an inconvenience. Most dealers I've come across by in large appear to be too busy to behave as if we're customers and are more inclined to treat us as if we are barriers between them and an easy life to be avoided by any means necessary.
It's more of a national bad attitude to service imo rather than one specific to Honda dealers
.I'd also really like a dealer that knows loads about the s2k which almost none appear to.

to Davey2. Excellent advice and information.
