If you are over 170cm and 75kg, then you already have no hope. I raced in this for a short while and now my little brother is racing in this with his Team in his Uni.
Typical quality time from 1st position to the last is within 0.5 secs so if you are just a little over weight, too tall or with no karting training whatsoever then you should think about something else like Rotax Max Senior.
Yes but most of them cheat on their weight, 73kg guys always race in 75+ kg race. So if you are over that, you already too heavy. I was racing in 75kg+ race when I was around 72kg ish and I know there are people lighter than me at that time, that's how difficult it is, but great fun tho... Loads of injury as it wasnt my kart...lol
Ninjidave; I've just come across the Daytona 'DMAX' series, 2-stroke but with a centrifugal clutche. Might scoot down to Llydd for the 20/3 endurance race
Had my first test yesterday and I can't believe how different these things are from the corporate style karts eventhough that's all I've been told by everyone.
The first session was a nightmare. First pushout, thought I'd got going to realise I had stalled and had to wait for the pusher kart. I fell off about 6 times in the first 15mins, the brakes are so sensitive. I even got spooked when someone showed a no bumping sign to someone behind me and for some reason I decided to break hard on the straight and went straight round only to then face the 10 other people who were behind me barreling towards me.
2nd session and I had a lot more confidence after talking to a lot of different people and asking for advice. I tried actually trusting the front and and not braking as much, slowly learnt how to let the revs rise and not just mash the pedal and tried to keep my foot down in a few of the fast sections. Braking still was tricky but listening to the engine really helps in knowing how hard you can push it and after many half spins I started to get the hang of it Showed much improvement in lap times.
Last few sessions were excellent, apart from once again getting panicked by rounding a fast corner to see a few karts stationary with no yellow flags, mashing the brake pedal and joining them backwards. Way more confidence in the kart now, getting a bit ahead of myself and discovering a lot of understeer which some people said was due to too much speed and others saying a need to snap more lock on to help the kart in. Lap times much improved but more importantly I feel more comfortable and am starting to look ahead up the track on linking corners together. I was in a kart with two other '2 stroke virgins' and we all showed improved times during the day. Still nowhere near the fastest guys but that wasn't the point for me today.
Lots more to learn and can't wait for the first race. There was no way that anyone could just enter a race without doing a test first, these really are so different to other karts. I need to keep on with training as I never really felt I was on the seat, more like 2inches above it and there are a few photos that I think really show that my frame isn't suitable for a go kart. First race is in 2 weeks.
I think this one show how I am crammed into the thing compared to the person on the inside of the corner, compare where both of our knees are and how straight our legs are.
