Cobra recreation project
About a week or so ago, I get a txt from my father in law, Mick
What's this? He enquired - with the attached pic

Que my jaw hitting the floor and many many questions, what, where, when and the important, how much?
Yesterday the deal was done and now we have a BRA 289 cobra replica to mess about with.
The car hasn't turned a wheel, the previous owner giving up and abandoning the project, pre IVA test.
So your challenge sirs is to tinker, fettle and lavish much love on turning this into something truly lush

Mmmmmm

Can't wait to fire this up, straight through system with cherry bombs
First things first though, got to dry the bugger out and whip the body off.
Shold keep us busy for the next few months

the above Cobra is one of the later 427's which had the cheaper 428 engine fitted at the factory.
the one above now has an original 427 side-oiler engine fitted (the 428 is in storage at our workshop) a second hand knackerd 427 FE side-oiler engine is worth about £20,000

this one which i rebuilt was bored and stroked to around 460 cu-in (7.5 litres) and has about 500bhp and it's mind blowingly quick

one of our customers is trying to get hold of one of the 19 dry sumped race 427 Cobras. should be fun.
keep the pictures coming of your Cobra
I always wanted a DAX (or a real one) since about 18yrs old
Looks like that old SD1 lump has the Offenhauser manifolds already.
I had a tuned V8 in an SD1 once and also on a Single Cherry Bomb. It was STUPID loud.
Be careful not to over rev it, they bend rods very easily.

Update:- Well we got the beast to fire up yesterday, after curing a flame inducing misfire (plug leads 5 and 7 the wrong way round!) - Christ what a noise, no way on gods green earth will this pass ANY noise test
A couple of niggles that have show themselves in the form of a oil leaking rocker cover (they all do that sir) and a water leak from around the remote oil filter takeoff plate. Also someone has kindly butchered the steering column, putting two UJ's in before it even hits the bulkhead
I'll sort a sound clip and post it up
