Default Cops in an unmarked Accord

So the silver 54 plate Accord comes belting down the road with the sirens going and one of those 80's cop magnetic blue lights on the roof on the spiral cable thing..

What sort of cop was that? I assumed unmarked cars have a flip up on the parcel shelf / lights behind the grill. Initially thought maybe a doctor but that would have been a green light right and maybe a sticker or something in the window.. this car was totally plain clothed.

Is this some kind of special retro cop?

It could be a Chief Fire Officer, they send the chief on ahead to assess wether they need more fire engines.

Or simply a copper using a non force car? Friend of mine was in the CID and they often used hire cars etc. when resources were low. Not sure if this is legit but it happens.

Probably CID or similar.... they tend to drive random undercover saloon cars with magnetic lights.

Police up here dont use unmarked cars with magnetic blue light on. They are as you described, with lights in grill/front bumper. i assume this is the same for all forces.
