DC2 beats DC5

DC2s are getting hit like everything else it seems.
£5k for a mint one with around 80k
£3.5k for a leggy car like mine - needing a clutch and an imminent cambelt.
£2-3k from a breaker means that they don't really fall below this unless they are in very poor condition.
There's a 25k miler up for sale at the moment for around £9k

I didn't get on too well with the DC2, as it really is gutless for road driving, but get it on an open road and it's great.
I bought mine in 2004 for 6k (98 UKDM with 95k on clock), sold in 2006 for 5.5k with 115k on clock.
That was 5 years ago and the same car is still worth 3.5k today. I want another as a track play thing, but the clio 172 cup is so much cheaper and maybe more fun, if not as good (if you like hooning around rather than setting fast laps).

I agree, my friend Paul got rid of his DC2 for a DC5 about 4 yrs ago and in my opinion the DC2 is a much purer car. The DC5 has more room and is more comfortable and also has air con but I was disappointed with the engine as there seemed to be less V-tec urge ,although it is faster, and the gearbox feels like it has the same throw as a transit van but the brakes are sublime, he never suffers from brake issues like with the standard set up like I did until I upgraded. He assures me that to live with as a commuter car the DC5 is so much better due to the points previously mentioned as well as a 6th gear.
Whenever we go anywhere it is his car that gets more attention than my S2000 and if I'm being honest then I would have preferred a DC2 to the S2000 I have but it is very much upto everyone's personal opinion i suppose.

I thought DC2s could be a bit underbraked sometimes?
The ones on the EK4 (if you think a B18c's gutless...) are hopeless.
Actually, the lack of torque thing must be a problem for some poor folks; I find it makes the car tractable on slippery surfaces and very docile in traffic. The tendency to stall in reverse is a tad embarrassing though.
Part of the fun of the B series is you have to wring its neck (in a fashion that would make Messrs. Hendrix & Moore wince) to make progress.
That the car is so reliable when treated in such a manner is all the more stunning.
I'd like to agree about the DC5 being more refined, yet the fact they replaced suspension sophistication with simplistic rigidity means the ride is evem more appalling than on the earlier cars. Sadly, this is a tend adopted by most manufacturers these days. It merely contrasts more jarringly (literally) with the rest of the car. Shame, really.
