Thumbs up Driving the Public

The company I work for is doing work at a railway station which involves shutting it down next week. We are therefore providing two 9-seater Mini Buses and drivers as a shuttle service for the public to take them to a nearby station.

Someone has just asked me if I have to by law have the drivers police checked as they are transporting members of the public (for no reward).

Help!

You definitely do not. If you can be a school janitor without a check, don't see why a bus driver would have to.

YMMV

I believe you do;

Nanny state has introduced all sorts of pointless qualifications for taxi drivers.

Must be the billions raped/murdered each second by cabbies and not jobs for the dolies...

Have you checked with your insurers? They may have something to say about it.

Decided to knock it on the head and alter our works and pay a local taxi firm a fixed rate for the day as it's way too much hassle.

Our drivers would need to be police checked and no time to put that in place before the work starts.
