Default Duff tyres ?

Just been looking at a few cars and one that I saw had tyres that I considered to be on the way out.

Plenty of tread left on them, but all four had cracking to the sidewalls.

I took a picture of one, have a look and let me know what you think.

Cheers.

Looks like the tyre has been driven while flat.

or almost flat and for more than a few yards as well

And therefore I think it needs replacing...driving tyres whilst flat or with very low tyre pressure generates significant heat and possible damage to the carcass...

The crazing is caused by the natural flex in the tyre as well as the natural ageing process of rubber.

Difficult to tell how bad they actually are in the pics but if you're worried about them, change them.

No doubt a price haggling point I assume its another Focus estate.

How old are they? Tyres don't just wear out they fail due to old age too. Five years is the maximum life expectancy of a tyre IIRC regardless of the amount of tread left, as they degrade and become weakened.

They were on an 06 car, but that doesn't mean that they are only 2 years old.

I told the guy that all 4 needed replacing and he said they'd put it through an MOT to see what they say, to which I replied that irrespective of the MOT it'd need 4 new tyres before I bought it.

Looking at a few at the minute, I'll keep you updated.

No worries Pete, if I do strike a deal with these guys I will specify that it gets OEM or equivalent tyres fitted.

It was quite funny today as the guy undervalued the Clio, he offered

I agree Mike.

I was looking for the date on the sidewalls, but they were so worn that I couldn't find the information.
