Would he consider a dealer car?
Saw this in my local dealers recently:

I know it's the lazy option but it could save time and hassle.

cabriolet is the preferred choice although a nice coupe would be considered
it does need to be SMG though
we've seen 5 cars now and none of them have been up to scratch
the problem, as always, is time and the distance travelled to see cars that are not as described
the one in the link is at least £3k over priced, even if it is approved BMW (69K and manual)
and that does not necessarily mean that it's a good one, I've seen some rough cars on BMW forecourts although it is unusual for them to offer a car of that age
also a bit far to travel
thanks though
It might be worth speaking to someone like munich legends http://www.munichlegends.co.uk/independent-bmw-dealer.
there's no cabs on the their site but they will source cars for customers, won't be the cheapest but you'll get a good car.

It is overpriced but if you pay less than they're asking and add in the warranty etc. the gap starts to close and it can make sense (assuming it is a good one).
Keep hunting though, they're great cars and worth a bit of risk IMO.
I just took my mate to Aston dealers to collect his Vantage and kept pace with him on the way home with hardly any effort, again
