... with a $100 million 'get out of jail card'.

Story here:

http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/m...d-9648030.html

It's little more than a sanctioned 'bribe' that will allow him to escape a bribery and corruption charge.

So the money is to be used for a new F1 track.... its not a "bribe" it's an investment whichg Bernie will reap future rewards from.

Dont you know by now....money puts you above the law.....

Playing devils advocate here for a moment, is a large fine in this sort of situation (no one died as far as I'm aware?!) a better resolution than putting the guilty party in prison which, will cost the state money and serve little beneficial purpose? Clearly the fine having 'use it to build an F1 facility' strings attached is clearly much less desirable.

The irony of having to buy your way out of bribery charges ! I'm not surprised and also saddened by this whole story as it truly confirms that money can buy you out of anything. What a strange law for Bavaria to have to enable this to happen too

... or the $100m goes towards subsidising German state-owned businesses like DFS Group for them to outbid companies like NATS for air traffic control contracts, just sayin'

It's not a fine, as that would mean guilt. It's an out of court settlement, so Bernie gets to be exonerated in effect and keep his job.

The "build an F1 facility" thing was just a tongue in cheek suggestion by his lawyer as I read it.

Well I'm glad to hear it's definatly not a bribe then, and not like when Bernie paid the labour party £1 to keep tobacco sposorship.
He must be admired by germany as a man "who got things done".
And Don MacKenzie must be fuming, he said he sack Bernie if he were found guilty that wont happen now he's paid a massive bribe sorry out of court settlement.

Probably some of the dirtiest money in history.

" Ecclestone denies bribery and says he paid Gribkowsky to stop him making unfounded allegations about Ecclestone’s tax affairs."

So .... what exactly is that, if it's not bribery?

And if the sordid details of his tax affairs are worthy of a £27 Million pound bribe, you have to wonder how he isn't being investigated by all interested parties. Given that his net worth is still estimated at $4.2Billion .... you have to ponder how hard he has really been hit.

I think a little jail time / community service would be far more humbling.

whilst it's laughable that you can bribe your way out of a bribery charge, the end result is win win really. Putting an 80 year old in prison will serve no real benefit, whereas $100m can go a long way towards bailing out another EU country.

They should have made it $1bn, he won't miss it, who cares, it just a number to him.

But yes, money makes the world go around...

I did have a little chuckle to myself whilst reading earlier.
