It seems to be the fashion to bash McLaren of late and there has been a fair bit of criticism this season. If you look at the stats, however, they have won 1 in every 4 GPs that they have taken part in.

That is one hell of an impressive record given how long they have been in business, clearly they do know what they are doing.

On the Hamilton/Maldonado thing, I don't think Hamilton has a case to answer for his move at the final chicane. Quick thinking and good for him I thought. However, the incident after the chequered flag as they were running down the hill towards Eau Rouge is what I imagine the stewards are more concerned about. Maldonado certainly appeared to swerve into Hamilton making deliberate contact, but Hamilton does do a little flick to his right moments before. This may have provoked Maldo into his contact, for which he will (and should) be harshly punished.

Surely everybody from experienced team boss to sofa expert knows that on a drying circuit in qualifying you want to stay out as long as possible (and preferably be last over the line), because the times can tumble so fast that you can find yourself falling from 1st to 13th whilst sitting in the pits at the end.

It was a bit of a silly mistake for someone like McLaren to make.

Senna did well. I was never that convinced he was worthy of an F1 seat, but perhaps he isn't just there because the team need the cash.

Lee McKenzie tweeting that Maldonado has been given a 5 place grid penalty and Hamilton a reprimand only ...

Seems fair enough.

Hamilton wasn't completely blameless as Dave says - he did weave towards Maldonado before the collision.

The Stewards also have all the information and telemetry that we don't see on TV.

From the look of it, it would appear less malicious than we first thought and two idiots mucking about on a World stage.

One thing is certain though - that Hamilton's move on Maldonado, this time, was completely fair.

unless Heidfeld gets the court to help him back into the car..

I never understand why the drivers don't get it, it's like any professional team sport, if you don't deliver you get dropped.. surely they are still being paid like a football player sitting on the bench..
