The Formula 1 Thread - 2016
It'll be good to see Magnussen back. I thought he was a good driver and deserved a decent chance in F1.
Maldanado had his moments, and often added entertainment value, but it never seemed like he was getting better.

More news today, and it looks as though Force India title sponsor and shareholder Sahara is unable to continue, due to Indian courts enforcing an order that Sahara needs to sell some of its assets to cover costs resulting from a fraud case.
The team have been strapped for cash for a couple of years now, and Vijay Mallya's companies are in no position to make up the shortfall, so unless a major sponsor or part-owner comes forward quickly, they seem destined to suffer the inevitable slide down the field.
Which would be a shame, because for the last couple of seasons Force India have outperformed their resources and delivered some decent mid-field performances. They definitely have the driving talent to make the most of whatever the chassis can provide, and they certainly have the right power unit. I for one would like to see Force India mixing with the upper end of the middle order - I'm a big fan of Nico Hulkenberg, and although Sergio Perez looked out of his depth at McLaren, he's turned into a tenacious driver who will usually bring it home and get the best result out of the car.

Renault today unveiled their 2016 car, the first team to do so, along with drivers Jolyon Palmer and Kevin Magnussen:

The car looks generic, as I suspect most will, given the (still fluid) proposed rule changes for 2017 - there's little point in using up resources on the 2016 cars.
The colour scheme, attractive though it is, may change before Melbourne. Interestingly, the car wears "Infiniti" branding, previously seen on the Red Bulls. Unsurprisingly, there is no PDVSA branding in evidence.

Manor, who are using Mercedes engines this season, happen to have signed Mercedes protege Pascal Wehrlein.
He was never likely to get any seat time at Mercedes, unless a tragic hairdressing accident were to befall Lewis Hamilton, and given that there are no other drives available, this doesn't really come as much of a surprise. Wehrlein impressed in the post-season Abu Dhabi test in 2015, and Manor look to be making real attempts to progress this season, so it will be interesting to see what he can do.
Other welcome news for aficionados of girls who look good in shorts is that Carmen Jorda has been retained as a "development driver" (I'm not entirely sure what this means) at Renault.
