Great review and pics Welshman

I'm doing a similar run in September. Out of Menton on the Col du Turini, and on to Braincon, the Aosta Valley, and Switzerland, then back down to Annecy.

Hope we get the weather as good as you did.

Can't wait

The Col de Turini is meant to be nice. Check out this site and the French Alps 2005 report

The following morning we left for two nights in Belfort. Chris P, Chris B, Kyle and I headed for Chamonix for lunch - here are the bikes outside Numero 9 a restaurant by the station:

Philip, I've waited until this evening to properly digest your recount and to admire the photos. Then I saw the photo above - I've stayed in Chamonix on 4 or 5 occasions and on one occasion (a stag week) I stayed in an apartment opposite the station, probably 30 yards behind your backwheels.

A road trip appeals to me much more than a track day (sorry Dan, San, Pip etc ).

Fabulous report and pics - many thanks indeed. My daughter and I followed quite a similar route north from Nice last July and really enjoyed it.... brought back some good memories.

Col de Turini is indeed excellent - and the other cols around Sospel and approach roads from the coast. Must be some of the best roads for the S or a bike anywhere and makes the UK seem very mundane

Chamonix was the base for our first European trip and Kyle's brother in law provided the base in the form of a chalet he has for rental at Les Houches 2 miles down towards Geneva. Chamonix proved a great base for a week away - there's a link on the site somewhere in the dim and distant past to the trip report but it's a sticky on this forum:

Track days are good for honing your handling skills but once you've done that then you might as well head for the best roads. There aren't many better than in the Alps, the Pyrenees, the Picos de Europa or the Dolomites - the latter 2 we have yet to explore.

You want to come out our way for a ride out one weekend then PM me.
That's another week night lost to an internet thread

Thanks for the kind offer re meeting up on a weekend - I really need to get a few miles on my belt first of all though - I'm concerned I'll look like a teenager who has just past their CBT! Have you spotted today's Pistonheads thread in Bike Banter?

No I haven't seen that. I'll keep an eye on the thread.
