Gatso Question
GATSO's only get you when driving away, as its meant to be dangerous to flash oncoming i.e. at night.
Truvelo flash a amber / red flash which does not dazzle, so these are used for forward facing.
If it was a standard GATSO I wouldn't be worrying about it.

If it was a GATSO and it flashed while you were approaching it you are safe - it is a 'dummy' GATSO with no camera in it. The radar is less sophisticated and can't differentiate between cars moving away or approaching.
Truvelos work with oncoming traffic but as already said they don't flash.

I used to have a great time on the A68 (Jedburgh) with the GATSO cameras on my motorbike. The cameras were in my GPS and with the cameras facing me I slowed to try and get some cars on the "lined" area then go like mad to get the camera to flash. Obviously as you have no front number plate on a bike I wasn't bothered whether or not they could trap motorists on the "wrong side" of the road but from their behavior I'm sure they don't as the flash always happened too late- almost as you get abeam the camera. The cameras seemed to flash once at speed limit +10% then flash twice if you got to about 20% over the limit. Its quite hard though to be exact about speed on this road especially when you are accelerating. Also it was interesting to see how the Gatso cameras work at real speeds so on my bike I had to include about an 8% speedo error in the calculation.
I did a bit of Gatso baiting on the way to the garage when taking the bike for a service and got chatting to a motorbike cop who was having some work done on his bike. Initially he said that they would do you on the wrong side but then admitted that they can't.
So yes you are OK firstly 'cos they won't work on the "wrong" side of the road and if it flashes once then that is effectively a warning IMHO.

truvelo DONT flash. They use an infrared flash. You wont see it. As per points before - you cant flash oncoming traffic.

Or perhaps you are just repeating what you have been told/read elsewhere, try driving trough one at night.
You may not see the flash in the day if they flash during the day!?! but you certantly do at night.
Truvelo Speed Cameras
The forward facing Truvelo camera system is designed to take photographs of the front of a passing vehicle, this allows the picture taken to show the driver of the vehicle as well.
To avoid the 'flash' which is given out by a rear facing Gatso camera the Truvelo system uses an infra red flash which produces no visible 'flash' to the approaching driver. These rely on 3 white-lines in the road, painted just before the camera, and are triggered by strips in the road, used to gain the vehicles speed.
Truvelo cameras are becoming increasingly more commonplace, counties such as Northamptonshire use predominately only Truvelo cameras.

(although I have never set one off myself)
