I was aware the a series wasn't fitted to the Triumph but got my Midgets mixed up with my Spits!
Never mind the confusion! Absolutely agree about the A series engine and 1275 version. Also re Triumphs' bonnets

Hopefully to the Revival next year when Mike has sorted his Midget and my pesky house is finished. Better to commute daily from Hove or camp on site Gad? Getting a bit old for camping tbh and if I'm not driving it can be time you and I meet for a beer or two
only just seen this post

Hove isn't far to commute (4o mins if roads are good) but I'd suggest Chichester would be better and you'd prefer it to Hove

unless you travel when veryone else is off the road you will have to avoid at least two traffic blackspots from Hove to Goodwood

from Chi you can get the bus

if you can book now also consider Arundel or Midhurst (Spreadeagle is nice)

I'm too old for camping so can't say I would recommend it other than to say it would obviously make travelling easy

I will definitely be there next year - this year has been wrecked due to family crap

I like Stags (enough to have two in store)

but they rot badly and the double skinning makes repairs expensive and difficult

they are certainly not as easy to work on as a Vitesse/Herald or Spit and not sporty to drive

miost are autos and they best at cruising (they sound lovely)

My butcher keeps Stags. One on the road, one off Oh and quite apart from his employment!

Thanks for the advice re Goodwood Pete. Sounds like we might better stay locally - Carol doesn't do camping. We have used the Foresters Arms in Graffham, but that was a few years back. Changed hands recently I heard; any intel appreciated.

Stayed here - http://woodstockhousehotel.co.uk/woodstock/

Eaten here - http://www.thefoxgoesfree.com/

Was accommodation for a friend's wedding, people staying at both and no negative feedback that I recall....

I had a TR6 from new for 23 years but one day I looked at it in the garage and said "I really don't have to put up with this" and sold it. Poor design badly assembled from shoddy materials by (if you are old enough to remember) Red Robbo and his mates, although Pininfarina made it look good. Like the Boxster/Carrera from 1998 (2.5L -> 3.6L), the engine was stretched too far from the original 1.6 Vitesse to 2.5 litres, so cylinder walls too thin and heads crack too. Ask any Porsche owner with cracked liners and oil mixing with water - same issue. Rubbish suspension design and "exciting" brakes. TVR's sound good, but take your taxi fare with you; when you have had a reliable car, it is easy to forget how everything on these older vehicles fails when you need it to function. Maybe try a kit car like a Spartan, then get it out of your system and go back to something that actually works.

Forgot to add that a Stag is actually two Dolomite engines in V format, so you have double the cylinder head failure rate.

How about a one owner Elan with under 9000 miles on the clock. It will go round corners and power from a Japanese engine might give it some reliability.
A bit more than 10k though I'm afraid.

Thanks for all your replies, and my apologies for my absence!

Regarding a Stag - NO ! Thanks, but having had to replace a timing chain on a Dolly in circumstances even a first class mechanical engineer would shake their fist at I have to say I'd not go willingly near one ever again! Plus, then having to tow said Dolly in a truely comedy and a good story making episode I can honestly say I would never approach anything with a stag engine. I wouldn't mind a re-engined (V8) Stag (all too common with those electrical woes early on), but I don't think one is really quite me, plus it would never fit in my small garage

My dad had both a Vitesse and a Spit (mk2a though) so I'm curious to know one of either, he isn't around to tell me about them any more sadly.

I have to admit the Spit has been my fantasy for far too many years. I think I might have to go that way first!

Thanks everyone, I really do appreciate all the replies.
