Default Going to Europe

Going to France and a few years since I have driven there, can't remeber what you need to have in the car when you are driving in France, first aid kit, warning triangle etc ?- do you still need to put a GB sticker on the back ?

Thanks

Try the AA site for advice. But I think you do. I have one on the number plate that complies as I understand it. Have a good trip. Suggest you read up on the French radar traps though, lot more fixed ones about than in the past. Plenty of warnings though if you keep your eyes open.

If you have a "Euro" number plate (blue stars logo with GB in it) you don't need a GB sticker.

Spare bulbs, warning triangle......

Oh, and drive on the other side of the road.

What spare bulbs? For all lights on the exterior of the car?

Does it really matter about the static cameras since the EU legislation hasn't come into effect regarding the sharing of speeding fines etc??

The AA is quite right. It is not compulsory for a car to carry either a spare bulb kit or a warning triangle.

France still has very few fixed speed cameras, but if you particularly want to avoid them put your route on Viamichelin and any cameras will be marked up for you.

Since any fine specified by their fixed cameras aren't enforceable over here, it's quite fun to get up to warp speed as you pass them and flash them the finger

Of more concern are the mobile cameras - still a rare event but it's an on the spot fine and if you haven't got the cash it's off to the local hole in the wall to withdraw it. Watch for them on the A26 from calais towards Paris and Reims, if that's where you're heading.

I'm most familiar with the Rhone-Alpes area and the places to pay particular attention for speed traps are in reduced speed limit areas and especially tunnels.

I understand that this does not apply so much in the north of the country where they have been known to target British cars as easy pickings.

it's less rare than you think..

when I lived in that neck of the woods.. it was a daily dodge with the boys in blue..

normally standing on a bridge with a radio.. and calling the next toll station to pick you up when you stopped..
