Goodbye iQ...
... hello Citigo.
The Old Dear has chopped-in her iQ and replaced it with a Skoda Citigo. I should add that it's a factory order and won't arrive until the end of September.
We tested the SE 60PS manual and it's a lovely drive, helped no doubt by the relatively light weight of the vehicle at only c. 850 kg. The Old Dear is getting a 75PS with ASG which is very marginally slower than the manual but remarkably, it's 8 kg lighter.
Plenty of toys on the Elegance trim level although we've added a few more - one that's notable is the laser assisted braking system, which I have to admit, I'm rather looking forward to trying out...

better than a scooter
cheaper than a signet
evo were testing a pando and a VW up recently, cant recall what they said though
EDIT: to finish my post their angle was low weight, soft suspension and eager engines = potential...
The citigo is the Skoda UP! Evo liked that, gave it 4*, beating the new Panda

The iQ is going primarily because the Old Dear fancies a change but there are a few minor niggles with it.
She does find the iQ climate control system inconvenient to use and the radio/CD controls are completely diabolical. The lack of a boot in the iQ with the requirement to fold the rear seats everytime there's stuff to carry in it was becoming irritating.
The iQ is wide and its long doors means it's not quite as user friendly as it could be.
The Citigo has nice old fashioned twisting knobs for the A/C and the radio is easy to use!
I'm sure the ASG will be nowhere near as smooth as the iQ's CVT but the Citigo rides much better thanks to a much longer wheelbase.

Just before I binned the VW Up! brochure, I compared the Kerb/Unladen weights of the top spec' cars; the VW Up! White (Manual) is 929 kg and the Skoda Citigo Elegance (ASG) is 857 kg. That's a massive difference of 72 kg.
The weights are the same in the respective brochures and the web sites, so assuming it's not a common typo', that's one hell of big difference between two cars which are essentially the same. 72 kg is a lot of additional weight to drag around.
My guess is the the Up! is much heavier as a result of the enormous VW badges front and rear...

My olds have just bought a Fabia (must stop calling it a labia in front of them) for mum - they avoided the waiting lists for new by buying a dealer demonstrator, otherwise they were looking at late in the year for delivery and my mother is not one for waiting.
It's a 3 cyl 1.2 but surprisingly good, even on the motorway, she's already been over to Cumbria in it and seems very impressed, even though she can't fathom most of the controls (we were showing her the ipod socket the other day, it nearly blew her mind - music? on that? in the car.....?). Doesn't sound half as rough as I expected a 3 cyl to sound, either.
I already have a plastic bag ready to slip over my head; the Old Dear's Citigo has a PID (Portable Infotainment Device) with navigation, computer, media player and sundry other features... "What does this do?" will be ringing in my ears as the last breath leaves my body.
