Default Goodwood Festival of Speed

Muddy yesterday but Thursday is a good day if you want to avoid the crowds.

Will post up some pics later.

Anyone driving should think carefully about their choice of car as getting bogged down in the fields is a very real possibility.

And keep carefully to speed limits as the vans are out.

I liked these three - just love the engineering on the Napier-Railton

The Ferrari is close to perfect

Not the best colour for the Lambo

Two classics I liked

And one modern

The traffic can be awful, just like any event of similar size, such as Glasto or Silverstone.

But it's easily avoided by getting there at 7am and leaving at 3pm, which is more than enough time to see everything and more than enough for little legs.

Too many people try to get there for 8.30-9.30am.

You do get the odd freak delay - I was a victim myself last year and there has been a fatal accident causing massive delays today but generally my advice holds good.

Went along on Friday - left Bristol at 6am and walked onto the site at 10am (shite traffic) - seemed busier than last year? Took the S and had fun slipping and sliding and also seem to have brought back a fair bit of the the mud and grass (an excuse to clean it).

Anybody going I would recommend making an effort to remember where you parked - I spent a good 20 mins trawling up and down the lanes of cars before finding mine (didn't help that the S has a very low profile compared to other cars).

I'm going tomorrow, my first visit!

Driving down from Ashford so should be 2 hours plus whatever for traffic at the Goodwood end so trying to leave as close to 6am as possible (off to bed soon!).

Hopefully the journey won't be too bad...

any tips from regulars welcome!

The FoS was a very memorable event for me a few years ago, in more ways than one.

The cars were stunning - and I'm still in awe of seeing Derek Bell doing his run in a Bentley Continental GT.

But it was VERY hot the time I was there and on the Saturday I managed to sustain sunstroke; the Sunday was spoiled by the necessity for me to stay within 30 seconds running time of a WC...

That was 3yrs ago, we were there too with our 1 yr daughter, it was BAKING and we struggled to keep the little one cool and out the sun, in an odd way the weather ruined the weekend as it was so damn hot although I think I'd prefer it baking rather than soaking!

Saturday was a bit damp in the afternoon, but the morning was dry enough to see all the groups run - not a classic day at Goodwood but still very enjoyable. The seem to have tuned-up the 'The Beast of Turin' Fiat S76 though - I wanted to see 3 foot flames !!!

Also good to see Ross Brawn managed to take a break from fishing and put in an appearance at the Brawn stand - shame that Jenson didn't get to drive his championship winning car - but that's contracts for you!

I'll try and post a few pics from Sunday this eve.

Certainly wasn't hot this weekend.
