FWIW, I agree with Mike's decision.
The original subject was lost waaaay in the mists of time and there was really only one way the thread could have gone had it remained open.

I really do think that if a CO closes a thread, they should put a note on the last post as to why they have done so.
It would save a lot of confusion from people wondering why it has been closed and at the very least is a courtesy to those readers.
