Porsche chassis engineer not as fast round road circuit at racing driver.

This is news? Big f**king deal. It means nothing.

And Moff, a disgrace? Come off it.

All it proves is that one bloke couldn't drive a car he's not familiar with round a circuit as fast as another who is.

Big deal, whoop-de-do.

People really have to stop focussing on ring times by different drivers in different conditions as some sort of arbiter. They're meaningless, as are Top Gear times.

Still, I'm sure Nissan will be along soon to 'prove' their car is 'quicker' again soon.......

I think they were clearly as shocked as most of the public were at the performance and could not see how it was achieved. Clearly if Nissan had made some leapfrog in dynamics / chasis / engineering, they were keen to learn and understand it.

It will be interesting to see how this whole thing shakes down and what counter statements / arguments Nissan put forward.

Surely Nissan they must counter this statement as they have flaunted the Ring lap time in thier own advertising so much. If they say nothing then they clearly accept the cheating claim, or they have to do an amazing lap time in a standard car to shut up the nay sayers.

Its fun to see Porsche squirm, it would be nice to see them fully support the Cayman chasis with 911 equivalent engine performace / turbo upgrades but at the moment there is no sign of them doing that its been left to the specialist modders and tunners to upgrade.

You have to admire nissan. They have created massive hype over this car and are in a situation where they have taken deposits for probably all their build slots. Assuming no mass cancellations what a fantastic position for a manufacturer to be in.
I thought quite a few car manufacturers put racing tyres on cars, set a time around the ring, leaked the time and let the chinese whispers run riot. You have to be a muppet to buy a car based on ring times.

I think they were shocked as to how easily they were beaten.

Of course, not making silly engineering compromises by having the engine in the wrong place would be a good place to start, chaps.

It all sounds a bit desperate from Porsche who are currently suffering from a massive sales slump. I bet they are crapping themsleves that potential buyers of their vastly overpriced products will be heading down to the local Nissan dealer to get something that's just as fast for far less money.

I don't really buy Porsche's argument.

People are taking this new info as gospel and damning the GTR, just as they take the GTR figures as gospel.

There will be a truth somewhere in the middle

There is a full lap of the Ring on the Nissan site, surely we can look at that and check the timing? (ie that same start to finish is being used etc)

The tyres used may be a point though.

I do see this as a great feature for Top Gear to take advantage of, get the Stig to lap both cars. I can envisage some good stereotype comedy and jokes about Japs and Germans arguing with each other

To be fair, if you put the GT2 and the GTR on the same tyres, with the same driver, on the same day, then it's simply physics that would tell the story.

The GTR is a fat bast@rd, although so is the GT2. Power to weight would tell the story, and the GTR would lose around such a complete circuit.

This 'tyre' claim has been in practice for years, well since I first tested at Millbrook which was 1995. Manufacturers use what appear to be road tyres, but are in actual fact very soft compound rubber made to look like a road tyre.

They're obviously significantly more grippy, but they also make a mess of the interior acoustics, which was the bit I was normally testing.

Ultimately, if you're spanking over

I am no expert but the GT2 is 2 wheel drive, wouldn't the 4 wheel drive GTR be a lot quicker on the corners? Assuming it's a dry track ?
It's a lot more than just traction.

The thing that gets me is the people who go for the whole "I've the faster car" ..

Yeah, but you are not a race driver.

It's like having the biggest cock, but not knowing how to shag.
