Default Hard Shoulder..

I usualy spend my day in the factory building new stuff but get out some
weeks on a breakdown or just for a test drive. This afternoon I went out
to see if we could fix an aircraft refueling tanker we had coming back from
the paintshop after some repairs.

The main pipe had blown off on the air compressor and it was stuck on
the side of the M62, rush hour wasn't far away. It meant some dismantling
right next to the traffic and its a seriously scarry place to be.
So we called a tow truck. The young lad that came out about an hour later
didn't apear very expierienced so I helped him out.
The front wheels were lifted onto the towing arm, the drive axle has to be
'disconected' either propshaft off or take out a half shaft. The later was
easier, also the spring brakes need to come off, this means getting under-
neath and winding them off with a ratchet.
My fingers were bloody numb and my bald head freezing in 0 degrees laid
on the tarmac and with death not too far away I got wondering-

Any good IT course's near Wakefield this year

LOL.

IKWYM Russ.

I did a couple of years with Pirtek a long, long time ago.
Fark me, up on top of the China Clay mines
under a CAT D9 in -3 degrees - belly pan on top of you
and laid in 40gallons of hydraulic oil ain't my idea of a comfy living.

And I have been fixing steering hoses on units by the side of a wet motorway whilst my Sunday roast went cold.
My sympathies matey!

I used to setup roadworks/diversions/traffic signals.

Almost got killed a number of times by idiot drivers not paying attention/jumping red lights.

Best one was I had halted traffic and was putting some cones out. 7.5 tonner flatbed decided he didn't need to wait, so drove around the cones on the pavement. I was standing on said pavement at the time, and as he swung round, the back of his flat bed pinned me up against the wall and scraped my chest. Another inch closer and he'd have ripped through my rib cage no problem.
