Just ferried my biking (pedal) mate to and from Harwich a few weeks ago, Jubilee weekend.

Two sailings a day from the UK. Evening sailing gets you there by 8am local time but you have to buy a cabin too, no sleeping on the deck or in lounges. This is actually worth it because otherwise (a) you have to camp overnight UK-side to catch the morning ship and pitch fees are quite high, (b) you lose a day sailing and c) you land late in the day and rapidly have to find a place to kip. (Car would be different of course.)

Evening ferries we found you have to book at least a few days ahead or else they are full. Chris didn't realise this and didn't book ahead so had to take the next but one day's sailing.

HTH

It rained so much he came back a few days later - few camp sites open - thoroughly wet and cold. Handy trains to everywhere from Manningtree which is a short/frequent train ride from Harwich. After he got to Norwich early and pleased at 10pm, we had a little adventure running out of diesel in his van on the bypass and then traipsing all over most of Norfolk when petrol stations and supermarkets were shut for the Jubilee Still, we did find the toffee flavoured vodka helped (finally )

Did this route a few years back coming back from Europe when the french ferries were out on strike.

The crossing takes a while, but I had a cabin which cost relatively very little and was well worth it.

From memory the boat was very modern and it was a relatively easy crossing.

Arsie , one does not sleep on the floor or use camp sites. One prefer's 5* as a minimum .! We are both ancient , relatively speaking.

We have been looking at the night crossing, and having dinner in the Pier before boarding. Then off to Heidelburg to visit daughter who is living there. It is our intention to use the S for this trip

God AE you surprise me I thought it would have been GRP, do they have a pointy bit and a door. So what is all this tidying and de cluttering about, or is one of those girls from tinternet coming to visit to check out your assets.

Ok. I guess you won't go past the bridge at Arnhem where Chris's Dad fought. But if you do leave some flowers. Chris is 68 and I will be in a couple of years but we don't think of ourselves as ancient. Just a bit decrepid and forgetful at times. Foolish, always

Have a good crossing, enjoy the trip, sounds a good plan

It wasn't a bad crossing, got captains class on the way back. Free wine and beer, TV and a double bed. Think its about an 8 hour crossing so you need a cabin!
