Default Have I killed my Civic?

I cannot believe I have done this! filled up the Civic today - got about 1/2 mile down the road and it started to splutter - realised immediately what I had done and stopped.

56 plate CDTI - write off? anyone with similar experience?? feel like a complete idiot!

Did you fill up from empty?

Problem is a think petrol will get rid of all the lubricant in a diesel and cause engine problems like the pump etc.

Did you drive far with it? or shutdown and never started up again?

You might be lucky, where you can drain it but you'd have to replace the filter and possibly pump etc.

I know about this because my grandad did it years ago.

You might get away with it, get the tank drained ASAP.

It will strip your engine of lubrication and can cause other problems, full pump, fuel injectors etc.....

Just unlocking your car primes the pumps on CDTI I think so get it sorted ASAP.

Mr Q filled our diesel Renault Kangoo van with petrol. Didn't realise he had done it and drove three miles home.

He twigged when it wouldn't restart.

Renault charged about £100.00 to flush out the petrol and dispose of it. The van has been fine since.

you will be alright as you have only travelled a short distance.

I think you'll be ok. A guy at work did this to his Volvo. He only paid 200 quid in the end.

You'll be okay - my company car drivers are always getting it wrong.

thanks folks makes me feel a little more hopeful! Fuel light had just come on when I refuelled so was a full tank of unleaded! drove approx 0.5 miles when it started to splutter and so stopped immediately.

Here's hoping! better than diesel in the Lotus I guess

Why haven't they made the nozzles different shapes for petrol and diesel yet!!! I hear of this happening so often when people are half asleep in the morning or what not. Not happened to me yet but nearly once or twice!

You could always get one of these.

I used to work for one of the guys that came up with this.

the company my parents work for has policy in place that means if you fill up with the wrong fuel, you pay for it to be trained and refilled.

As my dad found out when he did it to his 2.5tdi A6...ended up costing about 400 quid.
