Default Have I missed something here ?

I know programs like roadwars are a bit ott. But....

I just watched the polce chase a potentially stolen car, during the pursuit they reached speeds of 70 in a 30 barely keeping the 'stolen' car in sight. The 'stolen' car bounced over bollards and when the police followed their car was damaged. Eventually the chase stopped and the police chased the driver.

He was caught, arrested but then wasn't charged as the car wasn't stolen.

I'm sorry, what? Damage to a police car during pursuit, not stopping when the police tried to pull him over, clearly dangerous driving... Even just speeding ! But no, nothing.

Why is this?

I think it's because dangerous driving and speeding aren't criminal offences.
You don't get charged and arrested for them but you do end up in court for a magistrates hearing.

That might be slightly wrong, and I don't agree with it, but that's my understanding of it.

I'm sure they are offences under the Road Traffic Acts and criminal offences as such. Maybe a lawyer member can come along to correct this?
